The detail

Running a Rust server

Rust punishes an underpowered server more than most games. Entity counts climb all month, a single raid fires hundreds of physics events at once, and a bigger map holds more of everything. Plan around your wipe cycle: pick a map size you can afford to run on the last day of the month, not the first. Keep the plugin list short, watch the server on wipe day, and give yourself headroom before you widen the map.

Rust

How much RAM do you need?

Up to 25 players 8 GB A 3000–3500 map, vanilla or a short plugin list.
Up to 60 players 12 GB A 3500–4000 map with Oxide and a monthly wipe.
Up to 125 players 20 GB A 4000–4500 map, busy community, heavy plugin set.
150+ players 32 GB Large map, high entity counts, events running.

A guide, not a limit — you can change plan later without losing your world.

Getting started

01
Pick a plan and location

Rust leans on single-thread speed and RAM. Choose your map size first, then the plan that covers it, and a location near most of your players.

02
Deploy and set the map

Your server is live in about sixty seconds. Set worldsize and seed before first boot — changing either later regenerates the map and wipes what players have built.

03
Install Oxide or Carbon

Add a modding framework from the panel, then the plugins you want. Start with a short list: every plugin adds load, and half of them overlap.

04
Set your wipe schedule

Facepunch forces a map wipe with the monthly update. Schedule yours around it, announce the date, and tell players whether blueprints wipe too.

FAQ

Before you order

The things people ask about Rust hosting before they deploy. Anything else — the crew is around 24/7.

Ask on Discord
From small private servers (10-50 slots) to large communities (100-300 slots), adjustable as you grow.
Yes — browse and one-click install popular plugins like Raid Blocker, Clans and Economics, kept updated automatically.
Full control over your schedule — automatic map and blueprint wipes, or trigger one manually any time.
AMD Ryzen 7 7700 or equivalent CPUs, high-frequency DDR5 RAM and NVMe SSDs, tuned for Rust's demands.
Automatic during a maintenance window, or manual — deployed quickly while keeping your configuration intact.
Either. Oxide/uMod is the long-standing framework with the largest plugin library. Carbon is a newer alternative, built on Harmony, that loads most Oxide plugins. Pick one and stick with it — running both at once causes conflicts. Whichever you choose, install it from the panel rather than by hand.
Yes, more than player count does. Worldsize sets how much terrain, monument and entity data the server holds in memory, and a 4500 map costs noticeably more than a 3000 one. It also lengthens the first boot after a wipe, while the map generates. Decide your map size before you pick a plan.
Facepunch ships an update on the first Thursday of each month, and it forces a map wipe. Expect a busy evening: your player count peaks, the map regenerates on first boot, and plugins often need updating for the new build. Announce your wipe time in advance and update Oxide or Carbon before players arrive.
That depends on what you install. Rust sorts servers into tabs, and running plugins that change core gameplay puts you in the modded listing rather than community. Neither is worse — modded is where most players looking for altered rates and kits go. Set your description, header image and tags so people know which you are.
Yes. RCON is available with a password you set, so you can use an external admin tool or your own scripts alongside the web console. Keep that password separate from your panel login, rotate it if you hand admin duties to someone else, and never paste it into a public Discord.

DDoS protection, included

Every server sits behind always-on filtering at the network edge. Attack traffic is dropped before it reaches your node, so your players stay connected and you are not billed extra for the privilege.

On by default

Nothing to enable, configure or buy as an add-on. Active from the moment your server is created.

Filtered at the edge

Volumetric traffic is dropped upstream of your node, so your CPU and RAM keep serving players.

Game-aware filtering

Rules are tuned for game protocols, so real players are not caught alongside the attack traffic.

Nothing for you to do

Mitigation starts automatically. If something does get through, support can see it and respond.

Attacks, dropped Players, through
Enterprise network

Powered by a 10Gbps network

Every node sits on a 10Gbps uplink with direct routes into the major exchanges, so traffic reaches your players over as few hops as possible. Less distance, fewer transits, lower and steadier ping.
