After having some performance issues on my home server

After having some performance issues on my home server with a decently modded minecraft server, I looked for an alternative. I've had some really bad experiences with 3rd party hosters in the past so I was hesitant but after doing some research I decided on CloudNord. How much memory a modpack really needs

Memory demand tracks the size of the pack far more than the number of players. A light optimisation or quality-of-life pack behaves much like vanilla, mid-sized packs of a hundred or so mods want a comfortable margin above that, and large kitchen-sink packs with hundreds of mods and generated dimensions are the ones that punish a tight allocation. Player count then adds on top, because each person keeps chunks loaded. If you are unsure, start at the pack author's recommendation and raise your RAM tier in one click once you can see it running.

Ten people exploring in different directions load far more world than twenty standing in one base.

Leave a margin

A pack running with no headroom will stutter during garbage collection long before it actually runs out of memory.

Changing RAM tier takes one click, so it is easy to correct once you have watched a real session.

Keeping a modded server stable

Most modded performance problems are configuration rather than hardware. Pre-generating the world removes the single biggest source of lag spikes, since terrain generation is expensive and much worse when several players explore at once. A view distance of six to ten is usually invisible to players and noticeably kinder to the server than the default. Beyond that, keep every mod on the version the pack expects, add new mods one at a time so a crash has an obvious cause, and read the crash report before changing anything, because it usually names the culprit.

Updating or switching packs without losing your world

Take a backup before any pack change, then restore it if the update misbehaves. Minor updates within the same pack are usually safe for an existing world. Major version jumps are riskier, because removed mods take their blocks and items with them, and worlds carrying missing content can generate errors on load. Moving to a different pack entirely is best treated as a fresh start unless the two share a mod list. Automatic backups mean an experiment costs you a restore rather than a season of progress.

Common questions

No. Modpack support is included on all our Minecraft plans, with one-click installation from every major platform and full file access if you want to do it manually. The only decision is how much memory to allocate, and that can be changed at any time as your pack or player count grows.
The same pack and version you are running on the server, installed through the relevant launcher on their own machine. Client and server mod lists have to match, so tell players the exact pack version. Server-side-only mods are the exception and need nothing on their end.
Usually for minor updates within the same pack, and often not for major version jumps, because removed mods take their blocks and items with them. Always take a backup first. Switching to a completely different pack is best treated as a new world unless the mod lists overlap heavily.
