The detail

Running a Counter-Strike 2 server

A CS2 server is not a demanding thing to run: a 5v5 match server fits comfortably in a couple of gigabytes. What it is, is sensitive to distance, so the location you choose does more for how the server feels than extra RAM ever will. The work sits in configuration — a login token to be listed, Metamod and CounterStrikeSharp for plugins, and a match plugin if you want knife rounds and vetoes handled properly.

Counter-Strike 2

How much RAM do you need?

5v5 competitive 2 GB One match server with a match plugin loaded.
10–16 slots 3 GB Practice server with a workshop map collection.
16–24 slots 4 GB Community server with plugins and custom modes.
24–32 slots 6 GB A large community server — surf, retakes, events.

A guide, not a limit — you can change plan later without losing your world.

Getting started

01
Pick a plan and a location

CS2 servers are light on memory and very sensitive to latency, so location does more for feel than size does. Take whichever of our 18 locations sits nearest your players.

02
Add a game server login token

A GSLT from Steam is what lets the server appear publicly and stay connected. Generate one against your Steam account, paste it into the config, and restart the server.

03
Install a plugin framework

Metamod:Source with CounterStrikeSharp is the usual base. Match plugins, practice tools and admin systems all sit on top of it, installed from the panel or uploaded yourself.

04
Write your configs

server.cfg holds the basics and the game-mode configs hold round time, money and warmup. Add a workshop collection if you want more than the default map pool, then share the connect address.

Split your server

Turn one server into two, for the same money

Need a database, a test server or a second world? Split RAM off the server you already have. You are re-allocating memory you already pay for, so the total barely moves — no second order, no migration.

Database servers

A real database, not a shared one

Split off a database and you get your own MariaDB, PostgreSQL or MongoDB server — its own RAM, its own storage, its own version. Not a schema on a box shared with a thousand other people.

Your own instance

Dedicated RAM and CPU. A heavy query on someone else's database can't slow yours down.

Pick your engine and version

MariaDB, PostgreSQL or MongoDB, each with every version worth running — choose at creation, keep it until you decide otherwise.

Manage it in the panel

Create databases and users, browse tables and run queries from the browser.

Reachable from your servers

Point your plugins at it over the private network — no public exposure needed.

Splitting is done from your server's page once it is running — nothing to order.

Yes — popular CS2 plugins install from the control panel; see our plugin list for what's supported.

Round times, money management, warmup config and custom game modes, all from the panel.
For a public server, yes. A GSLT ties the server to a Steam account and is required for it to be listed and stay connected over time. You generate one free on Valve's site, per server, and paste it into the config. A password-protected practice server can run without one.
Not the way it did on CS:GO. The current stack is Metamod:Source with CounterStrikeSharp, which is where most active CS2 plugin development happens. Expect to look for a CounterStrikeSharp equivalent rather than a direct port of an old SourceMod plugin, and check that anything you depend on is still maintained.
With a match plugin. MatchZy and Get5 both handle the parts you would otherwise do by hand: knife round, side selection, map veto, ready-up, pauses and restoring the score after a crash. Load one with a match config and the server runs the game without an admin watching it.
Yes. Point the server at a workshop map or a whole collection and it downloads them itself, then changes level using the workshop commands rather than plain map names. It is how community servers run surf, retakes, aim maps and anything else outside the default pool.
Yes. The server records demos to disk once you enable it, and match plugins generally handle per-match recording with sensible file names. Pull them down over SFTP or the file manager and open them in the game. Keep an eye on disk use if you record everything on a busy server.

DDoS protection, included

Every server sits behind always-on filtering at the network edge. Attack traffic is dropped before it reaches your node, so your players stay connected and you are not billed extra for the privilege.

On by default

Nothing to enable, configure or buy as an add-on. Active from the moment your server is created.

Filtered at the edge

Volumetric traffic is dropped upstream of your node, so your CPU and RAM keep serving players.

Game-aware filtering

Rules are tuned for game protocols, so real players are not caught alongside the attack traffic.

Nothing for you to do

Mitigation starts automatically. If something does get through, support can see it and respond.

Powered by a 10Gbps network

Every node sits on a 10Gbps uplink with direct routes into the major exchanges, so traffic reaches your players over as few hops as possible. Less distance, fewer transits, lower and steadier ping.
