Connecting to Your Minecraft Cross-Play Server (Java & Bedrock)

Welcome to your new cross-play Minecraft server powered by GeyserMC! This guide will show you how players can connect from both Java Edition (PC) and Bedrock Edition (Consoles & Mobile).

GeyserMC allows players on Bedrock Edition to join servers running on Java Edition, bridging the gap between the two versions and allowing everyone to play together.

Connecting from PC (Java Edition)

Connecting to your server from the Java Edition of Minecraft on your PC is straightforward.

  1. Open Minecraft Java Edition.
  2. Click on "Multiplayer".
  3. Click on "Add Server".
  4. Enter a Server Name: You can call it anything you like (e.g., "My Awesome Server").
  5. Enter the Server Address: This is the IP address and port provided for your server. It will look something like your-server-ip:your-server-port.
  6. Click "Done".
  7. Your server should now appear in your multiplayer server list. Select it and click "Join Server".

That's it! You should now be connected to your cross-play server from your PC.

Connecting from Consoles & Mobile (Bedrock Edition)

Connecting from Bedrock Edition on consoles and mobile requires a few extra steps due to limitations on these platforms. GeyserMC works in conjunction with programs like BedrockConnect to allow this.

Important Note: The primary method for console connections involves changing your device's DNS settings to use a service like BedrockConnect. The main BedrockConnect IP may occasionally be blocked. If you encounter issues connecting, please refer to the BedrockConnect GitHub page for alternative server IPs or consider using the Public GeyserConnect.

Connecting from Xbox One

Connecting from Xbox One typically involves using a third-party program like BedrockConnect. For detailed instructions, it is recommended to follow a video guide as this method involves network settings adjustments. You can find relevant video guides by searching for "Xbox One BedrockConnect" online.

Connecting from Nintendo Switch

Connecting from Nintendo Switch involves changing your network's DNS settings:

  1. From the HOME Menu, select "System Settings".
  2. Select "Internet", then "Internet Settings". Your Switch will search for Wi-Fi networks.
  3. Select your current Wi-Fi network from the list.
  4. Select "Change Settings", and scroll down to select "DNS Settings".
  5. Select "Manual".
  6. Select "Primary DNS". Hold down the B Button to delete the existing DNS (it will default to zeros).
  7. Enter the BedrockConnect IP for your preferred Primary DNS. You can find multiple options depending on your region on the BedrockConnect GitHub Page.
  8. Select "Secondary DNS". Hold down the B Button to delete the existing DNS.
  9. Enter a reliable secondary DNS. Google's DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare's DNS (1.1.1.1) are recommended.
  10. Once the DNS settings are changed, when you launch Minecraft and go to the server list, you should see a new option that allows you to connect to external servers by entering an IP and port. Use your server's IP address and port here.

Connecting from PlayStation 4

Connecting from PlayStation 4 also requires manual DNS settings:

  1. Go to your PS4 Home screen.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Go to Network.
  4. Select Set Up Internet connection.
  5. Choose your connection method: "Use LAN Cable" for wired, or "Use Wi-Fi" for wireless.
  6. Select the Custom network creation mode.
  7. Select Automatic for IP Address Settings.
  8. For DHCP Host Name, select Do Not Specify.
  9. Under DNS Settings, select Manual.
  10. Enter the BedrockConnect IP for your preferred Primary DNS (check the BedrockConnect GitHub Page for options).
  11. Enter a reliable secondary DNS like Google (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).
  12. Complete the remaining network setup steps (MTU Settings to Automatic, Proxy Server to Do Not Use).
  13. After setup, when you launch Minecraft on your PS4 and go to the server list, you should see an option to connect to external servers using an IP and port. Enter your server's details here.

Connecting from Mobile (Android/iOS)

Connecting from mobile devices (Android and iOS) often involves using third-party apps that emulate a local network game. Some popular options include:

  • Android: BedrockTogether, MC Lan Proxy, MC Server Connector, Tempest.
  • iOS (14+): BedrockTogether.

These apps typically work by allowing you to enter the Java server's IP and port, and then making the server appear as a joinable world in your Minecraft Bedrock Edition friends list. Follow the instructions provided by the specific app you choose to use.

Alternative Methods & Troubleshooting

If the DNS method doesn't work for your console (note: this method is not compatible with Nintendo Switch), or if you prefer not to change your console's DNS settings, you can also explore alternative methods that involve using a PC or Android device on the same network to facilitate the connection.

  • Using a PC: Programs like Phantom can be used on a PC to make the Java server discoverable by Bedrock clients on the same network.
  • Using an Android Device: Several Android apps exist that can act as a proxy.

For more detailed information on these alternative methods and advanced troubleshooting, please refer to the official GeyserMC documentation: https://geysermc.org/wiki/geyser/using-geyser-with-consoles/
